Thanksgiving 2020

A 2020 Thanksgiving - complete with a socially-distanced walk with Grandma Jan, Grandpa Steve and Abby across the old cedar avenue bridge. We also enjoyed a zoom call with Grandma Brigid, Grandpa Ed, Aunt Anne, Finn and Ben but wished we could've seen them in person. We ended up not making our deep-fried turkey since it was just the 5 of us so we ordered a prepared meal from Travail Kitchen and it was delicious. While we were finishing the baking of the turkey, Kyle threw a football in the fire that we had going in the living room. Luckily Cecilia told us about it right away so we got it out before there was any damage to the house (but the football didn't make it!)

Talking, Writing, and Reading

We had fall conferences for Maeve and Cecilia and talk to Kyle's teachers at daycare drop off so I thought I'd document a few of their milestones!

Kyle is talking a lot now. He says many words such as eyes, ears, nose, toes, and loves all things that move like airplane, tractor, truck, boat. He is starting to count one....two....three and tries to go all the way up to ten but needs help. He is also catching on to a lot of different colors and surprisingly yellow is one that comes out very clear but he also loves blue, green, and purple. Animal noises and barn animals like cows, horses, pigs, and ducks are also his favorite to talk about. We love watching his new way to communicate although the two's are approaching and that word "no" comes out a lot now!

Cecilia continues to write her letters so well. Her teachers even commented how well she writes and is a very good student. She plays well with others and by herself. She loves puzzles and workbooks and will be ready for Kindergarten in the fall.

Maeve is reading a lot now, too. She loves reading to her siblings and still enjoys listening to chapter books. She's reading some of the early chapter books and has improved so much over the last several months. She is also a good student and kind and enjoys the company of many friends. She loves to learn and works hard on assessments. We just need to remind her that everyone is learning and that she doesn't have to get all the answers right :) She gets a little perfectionism from both of us but to a different extreme than either of us remember as a kid.

Happy Thanksgiving week! We will miss seeing our family together for a meal but look forward to the time when we can all get together again.

Maeve is 7

Maeve celebrated her 7th birthday in lots of new ways. We enjoyed an outdoor party with her friend Rose as it was warm the weekend before her birthday and we could be outside with a friend. We got a cookie cake and piƱata for a mermaid-themed party.

We also had a Zoom call with her class for a birthday reading and singing.

And, lastly, on her birthday she enjoyed lots of horn honking from Grandpa Steve's homemade sign. She snuggled with her beautiful handmade quilt by Grandma Jan. And we got to do a scavenger hunt for gifts from us, The Purl family and Grandpa Ed and Grandma Brigid at our house and then continued on to find more presents on porches of Grandma Jan and Grandpa Steve, the Gilmore family and the Kirchner family. And then for her birthday meals she wanted McDonalds and Sushi! She enjoyed the burger from McDonalds and a few of the avocado rolls from a local restaurant.

Her 7 year old stats:

Height: 48.62 inches (64%)

Weight: 51.2 lbs (55%)

She didn't have to get any shots which she was really thankful for and when we went at the end of the school day she made a comment to the nurse that it was the 3rd time her temperature was taken that day. Oh COVID!

We enjoyed time with the Saints cheerleader, the Doctor, and the Lion this Halloween.

To prepare for it, we also picked, painted, carved and decorated pumpkins. We also enjoyed baking monster cookies and celebrating at school - both in person and distance learning.

We also got to enjoy trick-or-treating for some sort of normalcy in this crazy year. We put out candy at the end of our driveway and many neighbors did the same thing. We got more candy then we ever have since most of it was pre-packaged in goody bags and did it in half the time since we didn't have to go to the doors! We also got to see Grandma and Grandpa at their house too.
