Independence Day 2015

Greetings from the cabin on a nice Independence Day!  We've spent the better part of the past 48 hours riding on the pontoon, playing yard games outside, swimming in the water, playing with the sand toys on the beach, floating on the coliseum island, attending turtle races in town and chasing our 19th month old.

It's a good thing Grandma has been along to help us, as Maeve decided she didn't want to go to bed last night after reading all the stories, she was still fussy.  Grandma's magical singing helped get her to sleep.  This morning 5 am Maeve decided it was time to get up and no matter what we did, she was not happy.  We forced her to stay up so she would nap well this afternoon - for the most part it worked, although she did catch a 10 minute nap on our way into town for the turtle races.  The turtle races were quite a hit - we didn't actually race, but Maeve enjoyed petting the turtles.  She's also tested Mom and Dad's patience as she has learned how to stand up on the patio furniture outside.  When we tell her to sit down in a stern voice, she repeats is back to us in as stern of a voice and then giggles.

With all the boat traffic and the crazy inexperienced boat drivers, we've stayed away from skiing and tubing this weekend, but instead have enjoyed lots of time on the pontoon.  Maeve is much better about wearing her life jacket this year compared to last year.  She has enjoyed spending time with Will and they have played together so nicely.

We've been fortunate enough to eat some great food too - grilled nachos, smoked turkey, homemade vanilla ice cream and homemade mac & cheese.  Due to all the wildfires in Canada, the sky has been very smoky most of the weekend and visibility has been limited.  It hasn't kept the sun from shining through though!

Wishing everyone a happy and safe remainder to the holiday weekend!
